The UAB Blazers started out the 2010 NCAA Football Picks season with a 32-31 home loss to the Florida Atlantic Owls of the Sun Belt conference. The Blazers showed how much they miss all everything quarterback Joe Webb. New quarterback David Isabelle was less than effective in his first start under center throwing the football, he had just 79 yards through the air with 1 touchdown and 1 interception. Isabelle did show coaches what he can do with his legs, he ran for 214 yards, and a 50 yard scamper to set up a potential winning field goal. The UAB coaching staff does have something to build on from the game. Offensive Tackle Matt McCants led the way for the successful amount of yards on the ground, McCants will be an All American and has NFL potential. This sports handicapper believes UAB should run behind the massive tackle most of the time in 2010. The guy dominated the opposition and should lead a high powered offense in 2010. David Isabelle must get the ball to tight en d Jeffery Anderson, who has a world of talent. As conference USA play begins UAB should be able to sort out some weaknesses. Florida Atlantic was a winnable football game, the rest of the schedule brings tough out of conference SEC contest at Tennessee on September 25th and at Mississippi State on October 23rd
The 2010 UAB defense look like the 2009 version, terrible. Against Florida Atlantic last season worst pass defense looked even more pass friendly to opposing offensive coordinators. Florida Atlantic quarterback Jeff VanCamp threw for threw for 254 yards and three touchdowns in the game. Highly regarded junior college transfers in the secondary looked a little lost in their first game. Cornerback T.J. Ballou and safety Jamie Bender will improve, but it may take loner than the coaching staff expected. Defensive tackle Eliott Henigan looked stout against the run, but couldn't get to the Florida Atlantic Owls quarterback. This area must improve as the season progresses. The UAB Blazers will finish the 2010 College football season with a 4-8 record.
