College Football Predictions: 2010 Texas Longhorns - Sports - Football

The Texas Longhorns lost to the Alabama Crimson Tide in the 2009-10 BCS Title game in Pasadena, California 37-21 and if starting quarterback Colt McCoy would not have gotten knocked out of the contest, who knows what would have happened. The Longhorns finished the 2009-10 college football picks season with a 13-1 record, the one blemish being the loss to Alabama, the Longhorns went 5-8-1 against the spread, going over the total 7 times and under 7 times.

The 2010-11 Texas Longhorns will be loaded again, with so much talent in the state, how could they not be. The program will be seeking it's 10th consecutive 10 win season and that should happen fairly easy if sophomore quarterback Garrett Gilbert performs the way he did in the BCS title game filling in for McCoy. The 2010 schedule is fairly easy until the annual Red River showdown in Dallas with the Oklahoma Sooners, a week later the Longhorns travel to Lincoln, Nebraska to face the Nebraska Cornhuskers, who nearly beat Texas in the Big 12 title game last year. Gilbert is without doubt the key to success, as he goes so does the Texas offense. The running back position should be strong also with Tre' Newton who led the team with 552 yards but that is a deceiving number as senior Vondrell McGhee and junior Fozzy Whittaker also had their share of time in the backfield. Gone is All American wide receiver/returnee Jordan Shipley, who will be missed but he Longhorns return 4 rec eivers who caught more than 30 ball a piece, plus some very skilled recruits will be coming to Austin. The offensive line lost 3 starter but they grow them big in the state of Texas so that should not be a problem, the team has 4 seniors with experience to hold down the fort.

The defense will be led by defensive end Sam Acho, defensive coordinator Will Muschamp has plenty of talent to work with. Highly touted freshman Jackson Jeffcoat, son of former Dallas cowboy great Jim Jeffcoat was a prize recruit and signed with the Longhorns and could make an immediate impact. The Longhorns have to replace linebacker Roderick Muckelroy and Sergio Kindle, incoming freshman Jordan Hicks was the top player in the state of Ohio, he turned down Ohio State to come the the University of Texas and talent scouts say he will make an immediate impact on the defense. The Longhorns lost Safety Earl Thomas to the NFL but junior strong Safety Blake Gideon is the real deal, a starter since he walked on to campus, Gideon should receive plenty of post season awards. Cornerback Aaron Williams is one of the best in the conference while Chykie Brown and Curtis Brown will fight to start at the other corner. The Longhorns will have a tough time winning the Big 12 south with a n ew quarterback but who knows Mack Brown might just pull it off. This sports handicapper college football predictions for the Texas Longhorns is 11-2, but they won't make it to the Big 12 championship, that will belong to the Oklahoma Sooners.

Charliessports.com will dominate the 2010-11 College Football Picks scene against the spread again in 2010-11.
